16 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 God's Son is the sixth studio album by American rapper Nas, released on December 13, 2002 by Ill Will and Columbia Records. Production took place during 2001 to 2002, and was handled by several producers, including Salaam Remi, Chucky Thompson, Ron Browz, Eminem, and The Alchemist. Partly inspired by Nas' feud with Jay-Z and the death of his mother in early 2002, God's Soncovers lyrical themes such as religion, violence, and his own emotional experiences. It has been recognized by music writers as a personal work by Nas. "Made You Look", the first single on God's Sonwas released on February 12, 2003. It was produced by Salaam Remi and samples "Apache" performed by Incredible Bongo Band. Jason Birchmeier of AllMusic claims that the first single on God's Son "announces Nas' periodic return with fury and bombast" and is a "Marley Marl-fashioned track." Jon Robinson of IGN.com claims that "Made You Look" shows Nas' "lyrical genius." Additionally, Ethan Brown of New York Magazine, says it to be "extraordinarily powerful." It was the second most successful single on God's Son reaching #32 on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached #16 and #47 in "Singles of the Year" lists from Blender magazine and Pitchfork, respectively. Q magazine also ranked it as the 903rd best song ever in 2003, and Blender followed suit, ranking it as the 185th best song from the 1980s to the 2000s in 2005. @nas #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #nastynas #nas #nasirjones #nasir #godsson #madeyoulook

Tony Cottrell, better known as Hi-Tek, is an American rapper and record producer from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is best known for his work with Talib Kweli on their Reflection Eternal album and on Black Star. His father is singer Willie Cottrell of the Willie Cottrell Band whom Hi-Tek featured on his second release Hi-Teknology 2. Hi-Tek started his rap career with hip hop group Mood and had a regional hit with "Hustle on the Side". That song was made for Mood's album Doom, which featured amongst others Brooklyn MC Talib Kweli. Talib and Hi-Tek clicked immediately, and Hi-Tek went on to produce most of Talib Kweli and Mos Def's Black Star (1998). In 2000, Tek and Kweli (under the name Reflection Eternal) released Train of Thought (2000) on Rawkus Records, with raps by Talib Kweli and beats by Hi-Tek. It enjoyed moderate crossover radio success with the singles "The Blast" and "Move Somethin'". Reflection Eternal released a follow-up album titled Revolutions Per Minuteon May 18, 2010. After signing to Rawkus Records, Hi-Tek produced for a number of the labels projects, including the popular Soundbombing series; a three-record compilation of mostly Rawkus-based artists. In 2001, he released his solo album Hi-Teknology on Rawkus. The album featured appearances by Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Vinia Mojica, Buckshot, and others, with all production handled by Hi-Tek. It received some critical acclaim and spawned a minor hit "Round and Round" with Cincinnati singer Jonell. Although the record sold over 250,000 copies, Hi-Tek wasn't pleased with the promotion of the album, or lack thereof, and he left Rawkus shortly after its release. He then signed to MCA Records after the remix of "Round and Round" featuring Method Man, became an underground hit. While signed to MCA, Hi-Tek began recording his follow-up album, Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip and produced Jonell's unreleased debut album for Def Jam. #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #bgirl #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #djhitek #hitek #hiteknology #cincinnati

Heltah Skeltah: Nocturnal Released: 1996 Nocturnal is the debut album from hip hop duo Heltah Skeltah, consisting of members Rock and Ruck (who later became known as Sean Price), members of Brooklyn supergroup Boot Camp Clik. It was the first BCC album to feature some outside producers, such as Shawn J. Period and E-Swift. The duo released their anticipated debut Nocturnal in June 1996, which included "Leflah", as well as the singles "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy". The album sold over 250,000 copies in the United States, and has become a classic in the underground Hip Hop scene because of its grimy, basement sound and strong lyrics. @duckdownmusic @seandabarbarian @rocknessbcc #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #heltahskeltah #rockandruck #seanprice #rockness #bootcampclik

Daniel Day, known as Dapper Dan, is an African-American fashion designer and haberdasher from Harlem, New York. His influential store, Dapper Dan's Boutique, operated from 1982–92 and is most associated with introducing high fashion to the hip hop world, with his clients over the years including Eric B. & Rakim, Salt-N-Pepa, LL Cool J, and Jay-Z. In 2017, he launched a fashion line with Gucci, with which he opened a second store and atelier, Dapper Dan's of Harlem, in 2018. Day originally planned to be a clothing wholesaler but soon faced prejudice as he ventured out. He struggled to buy the textiles and furs he needed, as most companies refused to do business him because of his race or location. Instead of purchasing outfits to sell, he began teaching himself as much as he could about the industry so he could create his own designs from scratch. Dapper Dan's brash "knock-ups" used bootlegged fabrics he designed himself after teaching himself textile printing. Notably, he invented a new process for screen printing onto leather, and would later also design jewelry and car interiors for luxury automobiles. The opening of his store in the early 1980s coincided with the crack cocaine epidemic and the rise of hip-hop music, both of which boosted his clientele. Day's trademark was his bold usage of logos from high-end luxury brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Fendi. Day ventured into hip hop fashion in 1985, when he first styled LL Cool J, and Day has since been associated with hip-hop royalty. Eric B. & Rakim who wore Dapper Dan's designs on the cover of their iconic albums Paid in Full (1987) and Follow The Leader(1988). He also created looks for The Fat Boys, Salt-N-Pepa, KRS-One, Bobby Brown, Jam Master Jay and Big Daddy Kane, as well as sports stars such as boxers Mike Tysonand Floyd Mayweather, and athlete Diane Dixon. @dapperdanharlem #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #dapperdan #llcoolj #harlem #gucci #louisvuitton #fendi #dapperdanharlem

So when it comes to real hip hop some may not realize all of the elements of hip hop and focus mainly on the rappers and the music they make. But for those who aren’t familiar with what I would say is even more underground than most of the Hip Hop artists in the Golden Era is the dj/Turntablist scene and where it comes to that you cannot speak about it without mention the Scratch God @djqbert. In 2001 he came out with Wave Twisters and now in 2018 we can we can all look forward to "Wave Twisters 0: the Origins” Check it out at www.thudRumble.com …. @djqbert #wavetwisters0 #wavewtwisters #djqbert #turntablist #hiphop #invisibleskratchpiklz @yogafrog808 #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd

24 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 My Life is the second studio album by American R&B recording artist Mary J. Blige, released on November 29, 1994, by Uptown Records. Many of the topics on My Life deal with clinical depression, Blige's battling with both drugs and alcohol, as well as being in an abusive relationship. Unlike her debut, What's the 411? (1992), Blige co-wrote fourteen of the album's tracks, making it her most introspective and personal album at the time. Similar to her debut album, My Life features vast production from Sean "Puffy" Combs for his newly founded label, Bad Boy Entertainment, which was at the time backed by Arista Records. Considered to be her breakthrough album, My Life became Mary J. Blige's second album to reach the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at number seven, and debuting at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for eight weeks. In 1996, the album was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 38th Grammy Awards, while in December of the same year, the album was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for shipments of three million copies in the United States. It also won the 1995 Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album. In 1996, following the album's success, MCA issued a remix EP entitled My Life Remix Album which featured artists such as LL Cool J and Lauryn Hill. #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #maryjblige #mjb #hiphopsoul #mylife

HBD Kool DJ Red Alert! Kool DJ Red Alert (born Frederick Crute on November 27, 1956) is an American disc jockey who rose to fame on 98.7 Kiss-FM in New York City, and is recognized as one of the founding fathers of hip hop music and culture. His weekly radio show airs on WBLS 107.5 FM Saturday evenings from 6pm-7pm EST. Red Alert is one of the first deejays to perform with the architects of hip hop Universal Zulu Nation. He built his radio show's fanbase by shouting out to listeners within the Tri-State area. Red Alert has been noted for breaking in such acts and artists as A Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, and Black Sheep. Red played a vital role in The Bridge Wars beginning in 1986. His legend grew immensely after being the first deejay to break the record South Bronx by Boogie Down Productions on his KISS-FM weekend radio show and club gigs in support of the Bronx-based hip hop group versus MC Shan, Marley Marl, and the Juice Crew. Red Alert holds the all-time record for the most guest appearances among all hip hop artists and personalities in the history of music video. When the cassette tapes gained popularity in the 1970s, Red Alert was the first disc jockey to record mix compilation albums, which were later known as mixtapes. He also was the first mixshow disc jockey to introduce dancehall to mainstream radio on his KISS 98.7 FM during the early 1980s. @kooldjredalert #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #kooldjredalert #djredalert #redalert #thekoolestlegend

25 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Doggystyle is the debut studio album by American rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg. It was released on November 23, 1993, by Death Row Records and Interscope Records. The album was recorded and produced following Snoop's appearances on Dr. Dre's debut solo album The Chronic (1992), to which Snoop contributed significantly. The West Coast style in hip-hop that he developed from Dre's first album continued on Doggystyle. Critics have praised Snoop Doggy Dogg for the lyrical "realism" that he delivers on the album and for his distinctive vocal flow. Despite some mixed criticism of the album initially upon its release, Doggystyle earned recognition from many music critics as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the most important hip-hop albums ever released. Much like The Chronic, the distinctive sounds of Doggystyle helped introduce the hip-hop subgenre of g-funk to a mainstream audience, bringing forward West Coast hip hop as a dominant force in the early-1990s. Doggystyle debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard200, selling 806,858 copies in its first week alone in the United States, which was the record for a debuting artist and the fastest-selling hip-hop album ever. Doggystyle was included on The Source magazine's list of the 100 Best Rap Albums; as well as Rolling Stone magazine's list of Essential Recordings of the '90s. About.com placed the album in No. 17 of the greatest hip hop/rap albums of all time. The album was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). By November 2015, the album had sold 7 million copies in the United States, and over 11 million copies worldwide. @snoopdogg #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #bgirl #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #snoopdoggydogg #snoopdogg #doggystyle

24 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Dare Iz a Darkside is the second studio album by American rapper Redman. It was released on November 22, 1994, by Def Jam Recordings. The album debuted at 13 on the US Billboard 200. In January 1995, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), exceeding the sales of 500,000 copies in the United States. The album cover features Redman buried in the ground up to his neck, a reference to the cover of Funkadelic's 1971 album Maggot Brain. In addition, the song "Cosmic Slop" shares its name with a 1973 Funkadelic album. In 2010, Redman told Vibe Magazine that he never performed any songs from Dare Iz A Darkside in recent years - primarily due to the album being made during one of the dark times in his life. The positive reaction to the album stunned Redman, who said "I was doing a lot of drugs on Dare Iz A Darkside. I have chicks that come up to me and say, 'Yo, Dare Iz A Darkside is my favorite fuckin' album, ever.' I swear, I have not played Dare Iz A Darkside damn near since I did it. Seriously! I was so lost, I was so fucked up during that album". @redmangilla #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #djs #deejay #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #redman #funkdoc #funkdoctorspock #reggienoble #dareizadarkside

23 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Labcabincalifornia is the second album by The Pharcyde, released on November 14,1995. Three years after their debut Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde. The album's production was handled by The Pharcyde themselves and Jay Dee, with additional help from Diamond D and M-Walk. The first single was "Drop". The video for "Drop" was directed by Spike Jonze, and used footage of the group performing the song backwards, replayed backwards, giving it a surreal quality. The backwards theme of the video is also a reference to the song itself, which features a backwards sample. "Drop" was a hit, as was the follow-up single "Runnin'," which peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100. Overall, this album is a more mellow and introspective affair than their debut and features more somber themes such as dealing with fame and success, drug abuse, and broken down relationships. After Labcabincalifornia was released, Fatlip left the group to concentrate on his solo career. @thepharcyde @slimkid3 @negrokanevil @officialjdilla @diamondditc #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #thepharcyde #imani #slimkid3 #bootiebrown #fatlip #djmarkluv #jswift #diamondd #jdilla #labcabincalifornia

R.I.P. ODB! 🙏🙏🙏 Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 – November 13, 2004), better known by his stage name Ol' Dirty Bastard (or O.D.B.), was an American rapper and producer. He was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group primarily from Staten Island, New York which first rose to mainstream prominence with their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). He died on November 13, 2004, two days shy of his 36th birthday. Ol' Dirty Bastard was noted for his "outrageously profane, free-associative rhymes delivered in a distinctive half-rapped, half-sung style". His stage name was derived from the 1980 martial arts film Ol' Dirty and the Bastard (also called An Old Kung Fu Master, starring Yuen Siu-tien). #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #russelljones #oldirtybastard #odb #ripodb #dirtdog #bigbabyjesus #dirtmcgirt #osiris #asonunique #thebza

25 Years Today. 🎉🎉🎉 Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the debut studio album by American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, released on November 9, 1993 by Loud Records. Recording sessions took place during 1992 to 1993 at Firehouse Studio in New York City, and the album was produced by the RZA. Its title originates from the martial arts film The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978). The distinctive sound of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) created a blueprint for hardcore hip hop during the 1990s, and helped return New York City hip hop to national prominence. Its sound also became greatly influential in modern hip hop production, while the group members' explicit, humorous, and free-associative lyrics have served as a template for many subsequent hip hop records. Serving as a landmark release in the era of hip hop known as the East Coast Renaissance, its influence helped lead the way for several other East Coast hip hop artists, including Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep, and Jay-Z. Despite its raw, underground sound, the album had surprising chart success, peaking at #41 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 30,000 copies in the 1st week. By 1995, it was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and has sold over 2 million copies in the United States. Initially receiving positive reviews from most music critics, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is widely regarded as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. (This is an original press run for their first single Protect Ya Neck independant release) @wutangclan @rza @therealgza @ins_tagrams @ugod_zilla @raekwon @realghostfacekillah @methodmanofficial #odb #ripodb #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beats #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #wutangclan #protectyaneck #enterthewutang #36chambers

HBD Prodigy! 🎉🎉🎉 Prodigy was born on November 2, 1974, in Hempstead, New York, located on Long Island. He had one elder brother, Greg Johnson. He came from a musical family. His grandfather Budd Johnson was a saxophonist, and his grand-uncle, Keg Johnson, was a trombonist. Both of them are remembered for their contributions to the bebop era of jazz. His mother, Fatima Frances (Collins) Johnson, was a member of The Crystals. His father, Budd Johnson Jr., was a member of a doo-wop music group called The Chanters. His great-great-great grandfather, William Jefferson White, founded Georgia's Morehouse College. Prodigy grew up in LeFrak. While attending the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan, he met his future music partner, Havoc. The duo became the "Poetical Prophets", before choosing the name "The Infamous Mobb Deep". Under the alias Lord-T (The Golden Child), the then 16-year-old Johnson joined Jive Records and landed an uncredited guest appearance on the Boyz n the Hood soundtrack, for his collaborative efforts on the song "Too Young" by Hi-Five in 1991. @prodigymobbdeep @mobbdeepqb #hiphop #classichiphop #hiphopculture #vinyl #vinylcollection #goldenera #dope #realhiphop #lyricist #dj #hiphopshirts #shirts #diggininthecrates #rap #music #beatmakers #producers #stacksrundeep #stacksunltd #prodigy #ripprodigy #prodigymobbdeep #mobbdeep #queensbridge
